WhY Cyclops?

Cyclops is an easy-to-use set of descriptors to explain what a beer will look, smell and taste like. It tells you whether a beer is hoppy or malty and helps you to discover what you like and what you don’t, so that your choice of cask ale becomes easier in the future.

So are you a hophead, a sweet tooth or a balance of both? Is your favourite beer dark and smoky or golden and grapefruity?

BECOME ACCREDITED

Reason one

You can now accredit any of your beers whether they are cask, keg, bottled or canned.

Reason two

Add your Cyclops tasting notes to point of sale and the backs of pump clips for staff to be able to speak knowledgeably about your beer.

Cyclops tasting notes are used in sales brochures produced by Punch Taverns, EI Group, Carlsberg UK, Molson Coors and more.

STEP 1. Register – Click here to fill in a short form. You will be sent a login within 24 hours (except weekends).

STEP 2. Login to the database here – the database is run jointly by Cask Marque, Cyclops and In A Pub. Anything you add here will be used on the Cyclops website and Cask Marque’s CaskFinder App. There is no cost.

STEP 3. Create or amend beers from your brewery (cask, keg, bottles, cans). The Cyclops part of the entry is created by choosing from drop down lists of words, which have been used to create entries for over 2,500 beers. The more information you fill in the better your entry will look and the more information customers will be able to gleam about your wonderful beers. Pump clip images should be ideally 500 x 500 pixels with transparent backgrounds.

STEP 4. Once you are happy with your entry save it and it will immediately go live on the Cyclops database.

STEP 5. Visit the search page to view your entry in real life and download hi-res artwork.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The Cyclops Trust, originally created by Everards Brewery is now owned and funded by Cask Marque for the benefit of the industry. The scheme has moved away from the system of beers being accredited in lab conditions to a system of brewers creating their Cyclops entries using a restricted set of ‘see’, ‘smell’ and ‘taste’ terms. As such there are no costs for members to register and self-accredit their own beers. That’s right, Cyclops is completely free.
